Hunting is, to me, a very emotional sport. It brings together sound and air and light, and binds it into the motion of the horses and hounds. This is an emotional painting for me because it is all about that communion. It is set in Westport, and just beyond the horizon, where the gazes of horse and rider are focused, is the ocean. The fall light may be waning, but their stride was long and graceful—hence, the name, “Keen.”
