I do a lot of commissions, both horses and dogs. When possible, I travel to meet my subjects, take their pictures and get to know them. Mame is probably the largest “Bernese” I’ve ever seen, with a friendly heart to match. This day, she had just turned to us to see if we’d follow or play. The wind and light obliged, and there’s a kind of immediacy in this portrait that matches her spirit, I think.
