It’s fortuitous that the best hunting occurs in the fall. That’s because the light and shadows are so dramatic then. What first attracted me to this scene was the high contrast between the sunlight glancing off the sides of these horses, then bouncing against the tree limbs. That, and the fact that I love the field hunter, “Ben,” posed in the middle. My aim was to make him look timeless and noble, when in fact he has more the personality of a “good Joe.” Artistic license can be a good thing, I feel.
